World Juniors takeaways

Here at Integral Hockey, had mixed feelings about the outcome of this game, as half of our Franchisees/Distributors are Canadian and half are American.  There’s no doubt that a few friendly cross-border bets were placed during this classic winter tournament, though no one anticipated such a close outcome in the end.

The United States players celebrate after Troy Terry scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Americans a 5-4 win over Canada in the gold-medal game of the world junior championship.

USA defeated Canada 5-4 in a shooutout – a real nail biter.  No matter which team you were cheering for, there is no argument that this was one of the most exciting World Juniors hockey games ever played.  Both countries should be excited for the prospects coming up the pipeline.

Takeaways from the tournament:

Troy Terry is a shootout five-hole specialist.

Ottawa Senators fans should be trilled about Thomas Chabot.  His poise showed that he has what it takes to be a real NHL defenceman.  Tournament MVP came as no surprise.

Ticket pricing and/or packaging needs to be adjusted.  Too often in this tournament we saw teams playing in front of only a handful of spectators.  Even Latvia needs some love in this tournament, so why set their ticket prices the same as a Canada game?

Alexander Nylander is proving that hockey genetics run deep throughout his family.  Alex (son of Michael and brother of William) led the tournament in points.
